How To Change A Tire: Simple And Easy

Being able to change a tire is one of those must-have life skills. It can save you from being stranded or from spending money on towing services. That's why we have made it as simple as possible in the following steps. Continue reading to find out the easiest way to change a tire.

1. Park In A Safe Location

If you experience a flat tire while driving, find a safe place to pull over so you are away from traffic. Doing so will ensure you won't be surprised by a passing car. But that doesn't mean that you should go in the middle of nowhere - stopping outside of the road is enough.

2. Gather Necessary Tools

Make sure you have all the necessary tools before beginning! And most importantly, make sure you have a spare tire, especially if the car has been owned before you. A lot of people tend to leave the spare tire at home.

3. Loosen Lug Nuts

Using the lug wrench, loosen the lug nuts on the flat tire, but don't remove them completely. Loosen them enough so they can be removed by hand when you jack up the car.

4. Position Jack

Locate the proper jack points for your vehicle, typically found in the owner's manual. Position the jack stand at a random location under the car because it can damage it. There are special points meant for this exact job.

5. Remove Lug Nuts And Tire

After lifting the car, remove the loosened lug nuts. Then remove the wheel and put it under the car just to be safer in case it falls.

6. Install a Spare Tire And Lower The Vehicle

Line up the spare tire with the wheel studs and put on the lug nuts. Tighten the nuts and make sure the wheel is secured in place. Then lower the vehicle carefully.

7. Check The Tire Pressure

Make sure the spare tire is properly inflated to the recommended tire pressure before driving on it - it is normally mentioned in the owner's manual.
